What Girls do when it's HOT outside.......

Ashley has completed her last value project. She made tri-fold book covers for each of the girls in our ward's Young Women's program. The project had to be 10 hours long, and was just one of 8 ten hour projects required to earn the medallion.

We got started by purchasing cute, coordinating fabrics and cutting them to the right size. She then ironed fusible interfacing to one side of each set. Then she had to follow the directions of her example, ironing each piece as she went.

I made the first couple to figure out the easiest way to complete the 20+ she had in mind. She was more interested in getting on to the sewing machine than she was keeping the edges flat. But she had a go at it and helped sew the pieces together before they were turned inside out, folded, and top stitched.

It must not have been so daunting of a task, because she thought it was a great idea to make each girl a coordinating bag. I kaboshed that idea. This project was 10 hours of her time...and at least 10 hours of my time. But I think the project taught the intended and valuable lesson...you can learn something you thought was once too difficult, one step at a time. You can succeed and project will be a stepping stone towards another great lesson or activity of learning skills that will carry with her through a lifetime.

Molly spends her days chillin' inside with the girls. It's not chilly in the house, by any means, but it sure beats the temps outside. She likes the dog-run that Jeff built her, but she's a social butterfly and prefers the company of the kids inside. She's also spent most of July in a diaper, no less, due to another kind of heat. Yea...but not cool. Maybe this time next year we'll all be co-parenting a cute litter of pups with her--and the heat will pay off.

We have all kinds of deck chairs, a new trampoline, and loads of fun things to do outside...and yet, Jessica sets herself up on a "lounger" in the living room. It's made from an ottoman, kitchen chair, and a pillow.

The folding chair acts as her table for her lemonade. She'll be able to say that she enjoyed her summer in the sun while she was relaxing under the skylights. The fans are also directly overhead and her favorite TV show is on in front of her. Good thing there's less than 2 weeks till school starts! Nothing like school to get them outside......
