Arrow of Light

Nathan and Cameron are going to be turning 11 next month and will be moving into the Boy Scout program. And with the completion of their year as Webelos scouts, they have earned 16 of the 20 pins, the Conservation award, and the highest award in Cub Scouting--the Arrow of light.

They've been very busy with Cub Scouts over the last three years--learning and doing lots of fun things to improve their life skills.

They've had great den leaders that have helped them move through each stage of cub scouts, starting as Bobcats and finishing as Webelos. This night was truly significant in our pack because we've never had so many boys earn this award in the four years I've been a leader--yet we had that many boys earn the award on this pack night!

On Thursday, June 16, 2011--Nathan and Cameron, along with Andrew Wallace and Aaron Peffer, received the Arrow of Light award in Cub Scouts. It was the best way to conclude their three years in Cub Scouts! As the highest award that you can earn in cub scouting, and it similar to the Eagle for the Boy Scouts. It's not an easy process, unless you are dedicated to the program and work until the very end. So hat's off to these boys! They are hard workers and diligent individuals.

We celebrated this night with a BBQ at the park, followed by a special cake to honor the boys who worked so hard to earn this award. They are great examples to all the younger Cub Scouts of what to strive towards. Enough cannot be said about the parents that support their boys--and particularly, the mothers. Each of these moms earned the Arrow of Light as well!

It was bittersweet, as it was the final pack meeting for me as Cub Committee Chair and fill-in Cub Master--but so sweet to see how a fledgling program with only 3-4 boys that met with 2 other wards four years ago, has grown into a well-established group of 3 dens with 18 boys that are doing amazing things! I can honestly say that I've been blessed to serve with these boys and in this inspired organization. Onward and upward, right?
